Agricultural
Manufacturer:
IBI designed and implemented a
comprehensive RFID solution for a large
international manufacturer of agro-based
products. This customer requested a “turn-key”
RFID system for asset tracking and inventory
management of corporate products. As the
major supplier of agricultural consumables
and related foodstuff, the manufacturer
wanted to eliminate archaic, inefficient
business processes for product asset and
inventory control. After an assessment of
the company’s current business model,
processes, physical infrastructure and corporate
RFID objectives, IBI’s RFID Solutions
team created an integrated system for identification
and tracking of packaged product and associated
shipping containers. Proprietary passive
RFID tags were applied to product shipping
containers and simultaneously encoded with
their product contents and other relevant
information. RFID tags and readers were
multiplexed with product containers which
provided both their location and contents
for any queried time. A partially nested
data model with COTS software was employed
for data capture, interpretation and storage
in a distributed client-server architecture.
Moreover, IBI provided addition value with
the creation of a corporate Intranet, allowing
the manufacturer to securely view and track
asset management through a web browser.
IBI’s RFID Solutions team streamlined
the manufacturer’s current asset management
processes, reduced both indirect and direct
product expenditures and provided an efficient,
scalar solution for asset tracking and inventory
control.
